Unless you’ve been living beneath a rock, you’re probably aware that every man and his dog are now using smartphones and tablets to browse the internet online. In fact at the beginning of this year, it was estimated that there were more smart phones in the world, than desktop computers and laptops combined.
This can only highlight the importance of having a mobile friendly, responsive website. This is essentially a website that automatically adjusts itself to fit the screen of any device that it is viewed on. No more scrolling sideways and pinching the screen just to read a simple sentence! A study done by Google last year showed that 48% of users said that if a site didn’t work well on their smartphone, it made them feel like the company didn’t care about their business. Today, being responsive is not only a benefit to your client, but an expectation.
Understanding this, Google has recently announced an update to their search algorithm, giving higher rankings to mobile friendly, responsive websites and penalising those that aren’t. If you want your customers to be able to find your website on Google, it is now a requirement that you meet the responsive expectations of Google, and the marketplace alike.

The update to Google’s search algorithm begins roll out from the 21st of April.
